We all go through times where things are hard and we’re distracted by pain and suffering in our lives.

It can be so easy to just give in to feelings of worry and negativity. What’s going to happen next?

If you’re a Christian, however, we have hope in a Savior that cares for us.  He gives us strength in hard times, and he wants us to look to Him in prayer when our circumstances start to overwhelm us.

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7

The past few years have been tough ones, and people are looking for hope and encouragement in the midst of worry and anxiety.

Today I thought I would share a few Bible verses that explore the topic of worry, and how we can find peace and calm in a troubled world.

Jesus Words On Worry

Jesus talked about worry and anxiety more than a few times, and he reminds us of how much God loves us, and how He can give us rest.

Matthew 6:25-27  “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?  Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?”

Matthew 6:34  “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

Matthew 11:28-30  “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Luke 12:25  “And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his  span of life?”

John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you;my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. “

Pastor and author John MacArthur give some insight into what Jesus said about worry:

In Matthew 6:25 Jesus commanded His followers, “Do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?” The tense of the Greek text is properly translated, “Stop worrying.” The tense in Matthew 6:31 is different, however, and means, “Don’t start worrying.” Thus Jesus brackets our passage with this meaning: If you are worrying, quit; if you haven’t started, don’t.

God’s Word is clear—believers are not to be given over to anxiety. But it’s not simply a cold, abrupt command to stop worrying. Scripture is clear that we shouldn’t focus on the plans, needs, and uncertainties of tomorrow, but it’s also clear about where our focus should be instead. This is what Jesus said to His followers, and the same instructions hold true for us today: “Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you” (Matthew 6:33).

Bible Verses About Replacing Worry With God’s Peace

Worry doesn’t have to be a constant struggle if we allow the peace of Christ in our hearts.

Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow. It empties today of its strength.- Corrie Ten Boom

Colossians 3:15  And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.

2 Thessalonians 3:16  Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way. The Lord be with you all.

Psalm 55:22  Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved

Bible Verses For Those Feeling Anxious

Anxiety can be crippling, but we can replace it with thankful prayers and thoughts, and look to Christ for peace.

A hundredload of worry will not pay an ounce of debt. – George Herbert

Proverbs 12:25 Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad.

1 Peter 5:7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

Philippians 4:6-7  do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Worry Goes Away When We Focus On Him

When we keep our focus where it needs to be, on Jesus, worry has a tendency to melt away.

No one can pray and worry at the same time.- Max Lucado

Matthew 6:33 “Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you”

Hebrews 12:1-2  Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,  fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Psalm 23:4  Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

Hebrews 13:6 So we can confidently say,  “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?”

Isaiah 43:1-3  But now thus says the LORD, he who created you, O Jacob,  he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you;  I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;  and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.

Luke 21:14-15, 18-19 But make up your mind not to worry beforehand how you will defend yourselves. For I will give you words and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict….  But not a hair of your head will perish. Stand firm, and you will win life.

Don’t Worry, Trust In God

Have faith in God’s plan for your life, and trust that he has “plans to give you a hope and a future”.

Worry is the antithesis of trust. You simply cannot do both. They are mutually exclusive. – Elisabeth Elliot

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Psalm 46:10  “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations,  I will be exalted in the earth!”

Psalm 56:3 When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.

Psalm 121:1-2  I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth.

Psalm 112:7 They will have no fear of bad news;  their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the LORD.

Proverbs 3:5-6   Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

Worry, like a rocking chair, will give you something to do, but it won’t get you anywhere. – Vance Havner

Romans 8:31  What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

Remember this verse: God works all things together for the good of those who love him. Romans 8:28 Now you love god, correct? So it is possible that this thing that you and your son are dealing with, may be a good thing! Maybe this will open the eyes of your son, and he will see with more clarity! Trust God and lean not unto
your own understanding Proverbs 3:5-6. Praying with you!

I fill myself with the Word eg verses about worry, fear, confidence and it changes me!! But I need to do it regularly…just like eating. The Word = Jesus in and through me. We are what we contain….. The mind, thoughts Directly influence the feelings. You Can have the Spirit and spirit ie attitude of Power, Love and a Sound, Strong mind. I’ve learnt to hate and resist all levels of fear….and it leaves!!!

I can imagine you have been prayerful and I’m sure with Gods Love for you and his unlimited Mercy and his want to help his children, he has surely heard your prayers and will answer them in a way that no man can.
I will just like to remind you to always be faithful in every challenging period of your life. Christ tells us that with our little faith, we will be able to move mountains and calm down storms, The Whole Biblical Chapter of Joshua tells us with Faith and Belief in the Lord, nothing can bring us down. By constantly meditating on these verses, by speaking them in faith. Worry by itself is meditating on the problems, fear, lack, stress or whatever the problem is…

By switching your mind to these verses it helps big time to forget and focus on the word of God, which in turn helps to ease up, as the power of God in His word overtakes us, and brings rest.

I was in a near panic because I could not reach my son. He’s in a tenuous situation and tends toward depression. In the wee hours, a mama’s thoughts can go all kinds of scary places. As he works nights, I was certain he would have seen my messages on a break.

I read these scriptures, prayed, and read all of your comments then prayed for each of you and your situations. Just after I read the last comment and prayed, my son texted back – he was just super busy and his phone was silenced. Thank you, Jesus, for your constant and patient love for us!

All of this has caused a lot of health problems. How do I truly give this to the Lord? I will quote scriptures I pray but I am so stuck. I have for so long played God in my 42 year old daughter’s life. I have raised her kids before because of drugs, now she has turned to Homosexuality I am so scared for her kids. See God delivered her from this lifestyle in 2003 now she is back in it. I let it drive me crazy.

Be “DOERS” (DOING what God’s Word is telling you to DO), and NOT?hears (you only, read? what God’s Word tells you to DO, but you DO NOT DO what God’s Word says, you should DO (you DO NOT OBEY God’s?Word (what you?read), and you just?hear God’s Word by you only ? reading ? and listening?to it, what you are doing, you are only, deceiving and misleading yourselves. 23. For if anyone is a?hearer (they only?read and?listen)to the Word of God but they are NOT a DOER (DO NOT OBEY what they “?hear or ?read), he is like a man observing his natural face in the mirror; 24. For he observes himself, goes away, and immediately, he FORGETS what kind of man he was. 25. But he who ?looks into the perfect law of liberty (God’s?Word), and CONTINUES in It (KEEPS ON OBEYING, APPLYING, and LIVING BY IT, God’s?Word to his life and he is NOT a FORGETFUL ?hearer but a DOER of the Word of God (OBEYING what he ?reads (?hears), this person will be blessed in what they do. (James 1: 22-25)

      Bottom Line:

Whenever you open the Word of God (the Bible), do NOT just read read it, like reading a bedtime?story to a little child.

      What God is saying is….

When you?hear His Word by you? reading, it, then “OBEY IT”, what you Read ? in His Word!!!!?

      A brief example:

No person can benefit from any pain?medication, just because the doctor wrote a prescription, called it into the pharmacy to be filled, they picked up the pain?medication from the pharmacy, then went home and tucked the pain?medication that the doctor wrote to relieve the pain, they took it home, tucking it away in the medicine cabinet.

What you have to DO is…..

After the doctor and pharmacist did their part, NOW, you have to DO your part by “taking the medication, applying it to your body, making your body feel better. ?

I hope and pray, what I have shared with you, HELPS you in your walk with Christ4.?

My son is doing a 3 year sentence in prison. If it were not for that, he would be dead. He had overdosed twice already and God was gracious enough to let him be with a person who could call an ambulance. He had stopped breathing. This all started with a motorcycle accident that led to an opioid dependency. God knows what he is doing. My son has refused the drugs that are offered to him in prison (yes, in prison). He lifts weights, eats healthy and attends classes. He reads and writes letters from the heart. This time has allowed him to get clean and remember the person God made him to be. I miss him daily, but I am so thankful to God for “scaring my son straight.”
Maybe a job will help your son, I will certainly pray for that. No matter what lies ahead, God is in control.

Good Lord, I need your help very badly. I have a serious mental illness of paranoid schizophrenia. I keep on worry about what may happen to me for mistakes in what I do or say. I have too much anxiety and stress about this topic constantly. I am addicted to caffeine and then my thoughts in my mind start racing. I am getting tired and wore out about this. Please Lord. I need your help badly. As a sinner, I have not prayed as I should every day. Also, I have not read the good Bible every day as well. I don’t sleep very well with racing thoughts and worries from the day. When I wake up, I start drinking coffee again and again. I know I have either cut coffee drinking down a lot or even quit drinking coffee from now on. I know that you know my thoughts all the time, so I know that you can help me with my suffering (I feel nervous saying this-worry again). I take strong mental health medicines at night but not enough of it as I should, so that I can wake up quicker in the morning to get ready for part time work. Right now, I feel sick at my stomach and wore out typing this in. I am very sorry for my sins. I still love my wife and pets and want to be free of anxiety so I can live well at home with my family. Please help me and help others as well who may also be experiencing these same issues. I will try to cut down on coffee or better yet, quit drinking coffee for good. My wife has type 2 diabetes she may worry about her health. I pray that she will survive it. I don’t want to lose my dear wife because of her health issues. I say this in the name of the Lord, with the help of the Holy Spirit, and all for God’s great glory up in heaven above forever and ever, AMEN!!!

As concerning the Word of life, Luke 10 section 25-28 says: On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?” “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?” He answered: ” ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.'” “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”
Luke 18 section 18-25 says: A certain ruler asked him, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good–except God alone. You know the commandments: ‘Do not commit adultery, do not murder, do not steal, do not give false testimony, honor your father and mother.'” “All these I have kept since I was a boy,” he said. When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” When he heard this, he became very sad, because he was a man of great wealth. Jesus looked at him and said, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God! Indeed, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”
Matthew 5 section 43-48 says: “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
In Old Testament, the Jewish people and their ancestors were given the Law to observe. First, What Adam and Eve should observe was that they could not eat the fruits from the tree of wisdom. Then, their son Cain was told that he should not kill. As sins became increased, the laws were also added more. Up to the generation of Moses, the Law in Old Testament was given to Israelites. We know that the Law is good and the Law is used to punish people who commit sins, but people cannot obey the Law because the sinful spirits are in people. Even that we know stealing and giving false testimony are sinful, but greedy and pride spirits in us drive us to do sinful things. So as Old Testament prophesied we need to get rid of our sinful nature from our spirits.
Jeremiah 31 section 31-33 says: “The time is coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah. It will not be like the covenant I made with their forefathers when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt, because they broke my covenant, though I was a husband to them,” declares the Lord. “This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time,” declares the Lord. “I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.
Ezekiel 36 section 24-27 says: “‘For I will take you out of the nations; I will gather you from all the countries and bring you back into your own land. I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.
The prophecies are fulfilled when Jesus begins to teach love. The two greatest commandments are ” ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.'” Love is above the Law and if people have love they are free from the law of sin and death. People who are full of love will not think about stealing or giving false testimony but are merciful and they feed hungry people or give thirsty people something to drink or invite strangers in or clothe people who need clothes. The Law is for people who commit sins. Nobody will say that he will get reward because he does not steal before. But love is the grace we get. And with love we will get eternal life.
Romans 13 section 8-10 says: Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the law. The commandments, “Do not commit adultery,” “Do not murder,” “Do not steal,” “Do not covet,” and whatever other commandment there may be, are summed up in this one rule: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no harm to its neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.
Luke 17 section 20-21 says: Once, having been asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, “The kingdom of God does not come with your careful observation, nor will people say,’ Here it is,’ or ‘ There it is,’ because the kingdom of God is within you.”
John 4 section 23-24 says: Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.”
