I just found out some horrible news today that a former co-worker, and someone I considered to be an all around good guy and friend has passed away.

Kip Allan passed away on Sunday here in Minnesota due to some liver problems, as well as a bad case of pneumonia.

I worked with Kip at my current job a couple of years ago, and at first glance he could be quite intimidating. He was a tall guy, with long black hair, a goatee, and tattoos up and down both arms. You always knew he was in the room. If Kip didn’t like you, you knew it. But if he liked you, you knew that as well.

He had a gruff exterior, but on the inside he was a big softy. He liked to talk about his sword collection hanging on the wall at home, and liked to talk about his pet ferrets (he wasn’t one to have normal cats and dogs for pets).

Kip moved on to another job a couple of years ago, but after he left we kept in touch. We had lunch on a few occasions to talk about our jobs, marriage and life in general. He always had such a sarcastic sense of humor, which is just my style.

Kip emailed me a couple of months ago to have lunch. We agreed to have lunch, but we kept putting it off – it just kept slipping back. I didn’t hear from Kip and I didn’t try to email him back. I figured we would get around to it sooner or later.

Today I found out the reason Kip didn’t email me back – he was in the hospital with liver problems, and later on pneumonia. On Sunday those illnesses took the life of one big-hearted, caring, special guy.

Kip, we’ll miss you.

Please pray for Kip’s widow and family, and for those that loved him.
