You’ve been given so much, now what will you do with it?

Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful. 1 Corinthians 4:2

A common theme that keeps coming up in my bible study is that we are tasked with being good stewards of what we have been given. Whether we have been given money, special skills, or lots of free time, we are told that we need to use our resources wisely in order to help those around us.

God has blessed me beyond all measure. I have been given a beautiful wife, a wonderful family and a nice home. But all those things dim in compare to what he has given me in Jesus Christ. Eternal life in him!

There are a lot of people around the world that don’t have as many material blessings as we do in this country, and I believe that we are called to help them in as many ways as we can. But first and foremost I believe we’re called to share the saving gospel with them, helping them to find the eternal reward in Christ.

So after sharing the gospel with people, what are some ways you can help people around you, or in other countries?

  • Sponsor a child in another country through an organization like Compassion International. This is a good concrete way to see how your money helps one of God’s littlest in need.
  • Give a micro-loan through a site like http://www.kiva.org/ to someone in another country to help them get their business going. I especially like this idea as you’re helping them be self-sufficient.
  • Find a worthy charity to donate to help feed, clothe and minister to others. Check out http://www.networkforgood.org/ to find a charity that fits your specific goals and needs.

So what can you do today to be a good steward of your finances, time, skills and other blessings you’ve been given?
