Health Insurance

Health Insurance QuotesHealth insurance, it’s no fun to think about, but if you end up needing it you’ll be sorry you didn’t think about it and buy it for your family.

My family had a big health scare back in 2008 when my normally very healthy wife ended up getting a blood clot in her leg, and ended up in the hospital and intensive care for almost a month. $250,000 or so in hospital bills later she was thankfully able to go home and recover.

That wasn’t our only health scare. When we were first married I had to have my appendix out when it came close to bursting. Total hospital bills were close to $12,000, which insurance mostly paid for. Our costs after insurance, closer to $1500.

Last year we had our first child. Having children, especially with a high risk pregnancy like we had is expensive! Our insurance paid for $20,000 worth of care, we ended up with about $3000 or so of that cost.

The point of sharing our story is to pound home the point that while insurance is expensive, so is not having insurance. If we hadn’t had good health insurance in any or all of these circumstances we could have ended up with a load of debt, and probable bankruptcy in case of the blood clot. Don’t wait until it’s too late. Get insurance today, you won’t regret it when you have your own health event!

Insurance rates and fees associated with them can change all the time, so i suggest comparing your rates every year or so. When checking your rates make sure to compare rates on the same or very similar coverage, otherwise a lower rate may just mean less coverage.
