This past weekend we had the honor of being there with some good friends as they welcomed their new son into the world. My wife was in the delivery room with them as their little boy was born, and she seems to have been changed by the experience. I guess it’s hard to see one of God’s small miracles – like the miracle of birth, and not be changed by it.
While we were at the hospital we took lots of pictures and some video (gotta find a use for that new expensive camera and video editing software of mine!), and earlier this week I put together a short video showing our friend’s son’s first day of life. I thought I’d share that here.
Carnivals I Participated In This Week
I participated in several carnivals this week. Here are a few of them:
- Money Hacks Carnival #76 – The Fun Money Facts Edition: My article on HUD-1 Settlement Statements was included in the mix.
- Carnival of Personal Finance – Money Quotes Edition: Personal finance author and speaker Matt Bell wrote Training A Child About Money – Online, which was included.
- Carnival of Pecuniary Delights – My Poor Garden Edition: My article A Commonly Believed Myth: The Little Guy Just Can’t Get Ahead was included.
- MSN Smart Spending Included Me In A Roundup About Money Lessons Learned The Hard Way, written by ToughMoneyLove.com
Great Personal Finance Posts This Week
As always, lots of great reading out there this week in the personal finance blogosphere. Here’s a sampling of some articles I really enjoyed reading.
- It’s Magic! Why Index Funds Come Out Above Average Every Time: Index funds are probably what we’ll be investing quite a bit in as we now begin saving (again) for retirement.
- Mrs. Micah Celebrates 2 years Of Blogging! Congrats!
- A Million Dollars: So What’s the Bad News?: If you were to win a million dollars, do you believe that only good things would come of it? Do you buy into the idea that money can bring happiness? Good reflection on wealth.
- Lending Club: My Review Of Social Lending: Interesting look at using social lending site Lending Club, from the perspective of a borrower. I wrote my own post yesterday from the perspective of a lender, so these two posts go together well.
- Green Panda Treehouse Is Giving Away 2 Computers And A Bag!: Great giveaway from a great personal finance site. Stay tuned for more details soon!
- Should You Give Money To A Homeless Person?: A challenging article talking about giving, and how we perceive people. Must read.
- The Baby Step and Money Map Dance: An interesting series of posts comparing two debt reduction and financial planning programs, the Crown Financial Money Map and Dave Ramsey’s Baby Steps.
Have your own link that you want readers to see this week, either one you wrote – or someone else’s who you think deserves attention? Leave a comment below with the link!
