We had great weather this weekend here in Minnesota, the skies were blue and the temperatures were just right. We were able to get a lot done outside the house. We planted a ton of flowers, finished putting some sod down, re-mulched all of the planting beds and cleaned off our patio furniture. It was a lot of work, but when we were done it looked really great. We just sat out on our patio last night, ate dinner and soaked it in. Beautiful.
I’ve been looking at purchasing a new DSLR camera for a while now (2-3 years?). I’ve finally saved up some money, got some Amazon credit to apply, and have received a bunch of birthday money to help out with the purchase. I think I’m finally going to buy one this week after much delayed gratification.
I’ve narrowed down my possible camera purchase choices. I’ve got two cameras that I really like, and would consider buying. They are:
- Canon Eos Rebel T1i: This camera just came out, and seems to be getting great reviews both for it’s great image quality, but also for it’s HD movie taking skills. Definitely one I’m considering.
- Nikon D5000: Another great camera from Nikon, who makes superb DSLR cameras in my opinion. This one has a cool articulating screen for taking pictures from interesting angles.
Which do you think I should get? Do you have any experience with DSLR cameras, and specifically either of these camears or similar models? Let me know about it in the comments.
Giveaway Winner
On Friday I did a quick book review of the book Upside Living In A Downside Economy. It’s a good read for a Saturday afternoon, and I highly suggest picking it up. As I mentioned after the review, I decided to pass the book on to one lucky reader. This morning I put all of the commenters on the review into the random number generator at Random.org, and picked a winner.
The winner of the book, Upside Living In A Downside Economy, is commenter #15, Efren. Thanks everyone for entering, and Efren, I’ll be contacting you shortly to get your mailing address.

It really was a lovely weekend. And I’ve got a nice view from my window–everything is green and thriving!
Thanks for including my post. A few years ago, I could not imagine that I’d find anything to enjoy or be grateful for in life.

I’ve got a Nikon but a lower end model. Love it. You can’t go wrong with either I’m sure. Thanks for the mention!

We have a Nikkon D60, i think. My wife hasn’t fully tapped into all of the features, but it’s great so far. I think it’s key with one of these cameras that you invest the time to learn to use it right.

My sister-in-law swears by the Nikon. Good luck making such a tough decision!

My wife is a professional photographer and will only use Canon. She has over 10 years experience with them. We have purchased probably 5-7 cameras over the years and have had very little to no problems with them. She has talked about buying the new Rebel so if you decide to purchase it, I will be curious to know how you like it.
I have a Canon S5 IS DSLR. I bought it after much researching and for its great marks. I love it even if it is an older model.

I vote for the Nikon 5000. You can’t go wrong with the Nikon brand. Highest quality, best products. Period
