My wife just became a coupon diva. She has saved us over $40 this week alone. A small change that can have big rewards if sustained.

We have cut a lot of things:

Cell phone - changed plans from 1400 min to 700
             min savings = $50.00 mth

Pizza - went from once a week to every other
           week savings = $50.00 mth

Land Phone - from the "gotta have everything"
($65)plan to "the way my parents had"
                ($24) savings = $41.00 mth

Total savings so far = $141 mth x 12 = $1692 a yr!

And I have just started!! We have always kept an emergency fund (10mths living) Now I am taking this extra money that I find and putting it in our daughters college account...just in case no one will give out loans or give her scholarships.

Last year my wife and I didn't keep to our budget very good. It didn't matter because we had plenty of money to pay our bills, but we should have been saving more than we were.

This year, we're making sure we stick to the budget no matter what. One month down, and so far so good.

I think your quote about planning is important. You really do have to know where you are going -- and how to get there -- in order to be successful in life and in finances.

This is true on most things in life, not just one's finances. I have made little adjustments to my routine and habits that have helped me save a little bit more money. For me a lot includes making lunch, not buying. A simple start I would like to expand on.
