» Devotional: The Road Ahead

By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. – Hebrews 11:8

The photo on the front cover of my first book shows a man walking down a road. We don’t know what his journey will be like because there is a mist obscuring the view of the road ahead. His travels may be filled with danger or they may be peaceful, but it’s clear that he intends to keep walking.

When we began our journey of faith, we knew our destination was Heaven, but we didn’t know what the road was going to be like along the way. God chose not to show us the details of our journey, but rather cheered us onward, promising us that the destination would be worth it all. Those who have completed the journey know that the hardships of their travels seem insignificant compared to the glories of Heaven.

The road ahead may be difficult at times. We may find hills that seem impossible to climb, but if we look to God then He will give us the strength to make it over them. Sometimes we may feel alone on the journey, but we need to remember that God walks alongside us, offering companionship and comfort. Other times, we may feel lost in the darkness, but God’s Word can light our path.

Along the way, we will encounter fellow travelers. Some will encourage us to keep walking, urging us forward. Others will need our encouragement and a reminder that the road may be long but home lies ahead.

My friend, I don’t know what path your journey may take or what you may encounter along the way, but I promise that if you keep looking to Jesus He will lead you home.
