I think the creative tip is a good one. It seems the default answer many times is that we have to purchase a gift. Personally, I would much rather receive a thoughtful gift (even a card) than a store bought gift purchased because someone flet like they had to do it.

I made a list and am almost finished but I was quite tempted today when I saw the Kohls ad. One thing we decided to do with extended family this year is to each make a food basket with can goods and give to a needy family instead of exchanging gifts with the adults. Thanks for the link! You've got some great tips here. I especially like the names from a hat option. Another thing that our family has done in the past is this: Instead of getting presents for each other, each extended family member gets a present for a less-fortunate family that we adopt. This allows us to join in the spirit of giving, it provides Christmas for another family, and it shares the cost around.
