We're practically done as well. We start gift shopping in October, and think about purchases. We used to do the put-it-all-on-the-credit-card-and-pay-it-off-by-February thing, but we're rethinking that this year. We're in the gift card camp as well. It provides an experience that the recipient might not normally have.

My personal advice is DO NOT purchase anything after November and before January. This means that December is the month that people tend to cram all the purchases in at once. It's called "NOT THINKING SMART" because items are cheaper the rest of the year except this particular month.

Black Friday is the day to purchase Christmas gifts. You don't even have to stand in line if you know how to strategize.

One thing I am proud of this year is that I have purchased all of my gifts along time ago. Well maybe I shouldn't be too proud because I pretty much got everyone gift cards. I am tired of seeing junk around the house so I got people gift cards to places that offer more of a service. I purchased my mom a gift card to a day spa where she can do whatever she wants all day there.

After going through FPU, my wife and I vowed to never charge something that we cannot pay off with 3 months. We went from having $8,000 is credit card debt, to having $0 in 6 months. Hopefully, we can keep it that way!

I can honestly say that having financial peace is so much better than owning "stuff".
